Retired batteries such as from EVs are not necessarily functionally dead yet still retain significant usable energy which, if properly re-intended, brings about considerable advantages for the circular economy.

When a battery's State of Health (SoH) drops below 80% - or other thresholds defined by local standards - it may still be repurposed for stationary grid storage, provided its operational characteristics still comply with safety regulations. If deemed unfit for second-life applications, the battery is sent for recycling to extract critical raw materials, for which the battery must be completely discharged to ensure absolute safety during its dismantling process.
