Technical Features

A high-power battery simulator with comprehensive programming and battery characteristic setting capabilities for EV and grid-tied ESS system testing applications.

Multi-Order Battery Characteristics Emulation

TITAN battery simulator is not simply a programmable bidirectional DC power supply with integrated with battery operation profiles and chemistry models for emulation virtually and controllably the charge/discharge and output characteristics of various battery systems including ESS battery and EV battery packs.

Integrated user interface supports the selection among built-in battery models including lithium manganese oxide, lithium cobalt oxide, lithium iron phosphate, ternary lithium, and lead-acid batteries. The system not only provides 1st-, 2nd-, and 3rd-order RC battery models for users to deeply customize cell parameters and SOC/temperature states, but also fully supports the import of customized battery models via CSV formats.

TITAN achieves real-time system-level characteristic reconstruction with a command update rate of up to 1kHz that authentically provides power interaction with Power Conversion Systems (PCS) and motor controllers for EV - respectively for ESS and EV system testing use cases.

Sub-Millisecond Transient Response & Ultra-Fast Polarity Switching.

Transient response is significant for precise system functioning validation, supposing TITAN is used for emulating ESS battery, and such as for grid-forming testing cases where a responsive switching to grid-supporting mode should be triggered upon utility outage. The reasons are the same for EV system testing regarding the shifting operation dynamics of EV pack.

TITAN exhibits exceptional dynamic control performance. At rated current, its load rise and fall times (10% to 90%) are strictly controlled within 2ms. Even more groundbreaking is that during intense positive and negative polarity current switching (from +90% to -90%), TITAN's response time is less than 4ms. Further with a voltage slew rate of up to 300V/ms and a current slew rate of 500A/ms, TITAN demonstrates the minimalized latency during dynamic test evaluations.

  • Current Rise Time (10%–90%): 1.8 ms
  • Current Fall Time (90%–10%): 1.9 ms
  • Current Switching Time (+90% to -90%): 3.8 ms
  • Current Switching Time (-90% to +90%): 3.6 ms
  • Transient Voltage Fluctuation (Sudden Load Application at 500V): 24 V
  • Transient Voltage Fluctuation (Sudden Load Removal/Dump at 500V): 22 V
  • Voltage Slew Rate (300 V/ms): 2.00 ms transition time from 360V to 960V

TITAN battery simulator regenerates power to utility

Bidirectional Regeneration & Grid-Friendly Interaction

A battery simulator operating in load mode does not actually storage energy. When receiving energy from the testing loop (as when simulating EV charging or sinking energy from an inverter), TITAN regenerates the power to the AC grid with an efficiency exceeding 94%, meanwhile maintains an ultra-high power factor of over 0.99 and strictly limits the total harmonic current distortion (THDi) to within 3%.

Megawatt-Scale Fiber-Optic Parallelling & Ultra-Wide Voltage Output

As a battery emulation variant of TITAN series tower-type MW system, TITAN battery simulator offers flexible scalability, by parallelling various cabinets into master-slave system, to reach a maximum power of 10 MW while consistently upholding the functioning responsiveness as if operating as a single cabinet - thanks to ActionPower's DMPS and fober-optic communication technology.

The superior digital current-sharing algorithm works cohesively when reconfiguring the 10MW maximum power platform into several sub-master-slave systems for multi-station, and large-capacity test scenario setup applications.

Versatile Programming, Testing Sequence Automation & SOC-SOH and Virtual Resistance

TITAN battery simulator incorporates standard programming functions including (CV/CC/CP/CR) together with the capability of sequenced automation setup for up to 1,000 steps (via Step/List/Wave modes with a 1ms minimum dwell time).

For precise battery condition reconstruction, user-controlled settings are available in the interface regarding State of Health (SOH) and State of Charge (SOC), as well as a wide-range virtual internal resistance setting with 1mΩ resolution (-2Ω to +2Ω) to replicate ageing cable voltage drops and battery polarization impedances during lasting operation.
