CORTEX AC is a laboratory-purposed rack-mount 3U programmable power supply with advanced programming features, custom waveform capability, integrated RLC modelling and testing sequences for EMC and grid code test from 22kVA to 220kVA.
CORTEX AC series features a high-performance combination of AC/DC power supply and a fully regenerative AC/DC electronic load into a single hardware platform backed by advanced high-frequency wide-bandgap (WBG) bidirectional topology. The system operates automatically across its four-quadrant operation range with precise, bidirectional flow of active and reactive power.
In regenerative mode, the energy absorbed from the device under test (DUT) is efficiently fed back to the local grid with ultra-low total harmonic distortion (THD) of below 0.3% for 50Hz/60Hz standard frequency application. For interoperation and interconnection test use cases where power flow is bidirectional, such as for V2G (Vehicle-to-Grid) systems, bidirectional PCS (Power Conversion Systems), and microgrid tied equipment, CORTEX AC reduces energy costs and simplifies thermal management in high-power test labs.
The mixed and versatile output modes of CORTEX AC approximate with high-fidelity real-world power system conditions such as AC lines injected with DC offsets (DC bias) to test transformer saturation and inverter resilience, or DC links superimposed with high-frequency AC ripple currents for rigorous battery, fuel cell, and EV powertrain validation. Consolidating these multifaceted power generation capabilities into a single unified 3U chassis, CORTEX eliminates the need for discrete AC and DC sources while significantly broadening your boundary-testing coverage.
CORTEX AC is integrated with DSP-driven digital RLC load modelling function that mathematically replicates the complex behaviour of passive and non-linear AC loads. Test engineers can independently adjust and decouple R, L, and C impedance parameters to precisely tune the high- and low-frequency resonant circuits required for anti-islanding validation.
In-lab testing for anti-islanding hence get streamlined free from conventional RLC load banks for better pinpointing resonance and mapping the Non-Detection Zone (NDZ) and conducting rigorous compliance test with standards like IEC 62116, UL 1741 and IEEE 1547.
Higher-frequency versions of CORTEX AC is integrated with a wideband control loop and ready for Power Hardware-in-the-Loop (PHIL) real-time simulation.
With exceptional 10kHz small-signal bandwidth and 70μs transient response, the system accurately converts control signals from simulation platforms into 20kVA power-level outputs - ideal for motor drive development and microgrid controller testing. Custom options offer closed-loop integration with real-time simulators like RTDS and OPAL-RT.
While a single compact 3U chassis offering a unit power rating of 22kVA, CORTEX AC further scales up through Distributed Multi-Processing System (DMPS) architecture to reach 220kVA with communication over a dedicated high-speed, zero-delay fiber-optic ring network for low-level clock and data synchronization. Redundancy feature is equipped with the control logic which isolates the units in error among the parallel matrix for achieving operation consistency and eliminating test downtime.
CORTEX AC allows separate and decoupled phase control with angles of 0–359.9° and continuously adjustable with 0.1° resolution. Advanced software integrates a harmonics-and-interharmonics configuration interface where users can synthesize and inject arbitrary waveform distortion.
Integrated software with host control has pre-compliance test sequence automation for LVRT/ZVRT, unbalanced sags, ROCOF (Rate of Change of Frequency), flicker and further standard-specified testing items.
From the host software test engineers can set up natively pre-loaded with comprehensive test profiles compliant with major international and regional standards (e.g., IEC 61000 series, IEEE 1547, UL 1741, VDE-AR-N 4105) without spending time on manual programming.
For user-defined custom profile emulation, powerful built-in programming engine features Sequence, Step, and List modes for deep scripting of microsecond-level trigger times, voltage/frequency slew rates, and complex jump conditions. CORTEX saves your testing process setup with automated, consistent execution of long-term compliance verification, multi-condition time-series emulation, and burn-in testing for EVSE, PV inverters, and commercial UPS systems.
